## Who is the Vet block for?

The attending vet and the vet team. When a case opens on the morning check, you want it tracked to a decision with the right people told, so no animal waits and the record holds up.

## What comes in the Vet block?

## See how the work connects

The sick animal report at 20 facilities, then the health case at 16. Below, the workflows that do each handoff.

1. **A sick animal report starts with a card on the cage** (16 of 20 facilities)
2. **How does the report leave the cage?**
   - A web form: 6 of 20
   - A paper record: 5 of 20
   - A phone call: 3 of 20
   - A software module: 2 of 20
   - An email: 2 of 20
   - A scan at the cage: 1 of 20
   - A chat channel: 1 of 20
3. **Who sees it first?**
   - Vet staff or a vet tech: 15 of 20
   - A manager or supervisor: 3 of 20
   - A trained designate or study technician: 2 of 20
Each dot is one of the 20 facilities whose procedure we read. Where one way clearly leads at a fork, it is outlined.

1. **Where is the health case kept?**
   - A paper case file: 6 of 16
   - Software plus a card on the cage: 3 of 16
   - A line in a facility log: 3 of 16
   - A vet module in software: 2 of 16
   - The card is the record: 1 of 16
   - One web form per case: 1 of 16
2. **The lab is told**: By email at 8. (13 of 16 facilities)
Each dot is one of the 16 facilities whose procedure we read. Where one way clearly leads at a fork, it is outlined.

1. **Reported**: Priya Sood reports animal 7756 from the morning check. Saving it emails the vet team and posts to Slack or Google Chat.
2. **Taken**: Jules Ferreira presses Take this report, and the vet section opens on the same record, HC-0184.
3. **Lab told**: Tell the lab emails Noor Adler, the PI on the record. If her lab misses its deadline, the case is on the next morning's list.
4. **Raised elsewhere**: A [post-op check](https://streamcell.com/library/rodent-surgery-post-op-record) marked needs the vet or a positive [sentinel](https://streamcell.com/library/rodent-health-monitoring) alerts the vet team. Robin Mace opens a case, HC-0185, and links it.

## What will the vet see each morning?

The saved views and graphs in the block.

- **Case board** (kanban): Every open case, by status.
- **Cases by severity and outcome** (pivot): What is worst.
- **Morning round** (list): Open reports and cases, at 8:00.
- **Treatments and rechecks due** (list): 7 of 16 facilities require follow-up.
- **Lab has not answered** (list): Cases past the lab's deadline. 5 of 16 set one.
- **Weight over time** (chart): One animal's weights.

## Make room for your way of working

It starts from the most common way; each other way is a few changes.

- **A card plus a web form** (6 of 20 facilities): The default.
- **A paper report or log** (5 of 20 facilities): The form replaces the paper; a morning list goes to the vet.
- **Phone first** (3 of 20 facilities): The call stays. Whoever answers opens the record.
- **A vendor's vet module** (2 of 20 facilities): Streamcell sits beside it.
- **An email report** (2 of 20 facilities): The workflow sends it, from the form.
- **A team chat channel** (1 of 20 facilities): Streamcell posts to Slack or Google Chat.
- **Scan at the cage** (1 of 20 facilities): The card stays and carries the record number.
How the report starts, at 20 facilities.

- **Who sees it first:** vet staff or a vet tech at 15 of 20. Add a With vet tech status if that's yours.
- **Urgent cases:** 14 of 20 name a separate route, 10 of them the phone. Keep the phone; add an urgency field.

## Find your starting point

Find your starting point.

1. Does a sick animal report go into a web form, an app or software?
2. Is it a module in software your facility bought?
3. Are post-op checks written on a card in the cage card holder?
4. Is the health case kept as a paper file per case or animal?

- **Start from the default**: A card plus a web form, like 6 of 20.
- **Start beside your vet module**: Like 2 of 20.
- **Start from the post-op card**: Like 3 of 12. The card stays; the checks go on the record.
- **Start from the case file**: Like 6 of 16. The health case replaces the paper file.
- **Start from paper or the phone**: Like 5 of 20 on paper, 3 by phone.

## Keep what already works

- **The card on the cage.** It can carry the record number.
- **Phone calls.** Where urgent cases go by phone, they still do; whoever answers opens the record.
- **Your vet module and outside labs.** Streamcell sits beside them; results go on the sample record.
- **One thing Streamcell can't do:** an if-then step. Urgent and routine reports run as two workflows.

## What do buyers ask a vet's software to do?

From 23 public procurement documents for animal facility and vet record software.

- **10 of 23**: ask for something in the health area.
- **8 of 23**: ask for animal health records.
- **5 of 23**: ask for health cases and treatments.
